This is an independent, non-accredited BSL course designed for practical learning and personal development. A certificate of completion is provided. Annual subscription renews at £19.99 unless cancelled.
This course will take you through 15 different BSL stories where you will meet 4 of our Deaf presenters Ramon Woolfe, Marcel Hirshman, Mark Nelson and Radha Starr. They will demonstrate through the stories BSL role shift, referencing, placement and other linguistic elements of BSL. There are questions throughout to test your receptive skills of BSL.
Radha has been Deaf from birth and is from a Deaf family. Based in London, Radha has various job roles which include being a presenter, actress, translator, trainer and relay interpreter.
She is well-known with the Deaf community due to her work as a TV presenter on BBC’s See Hear since 2006. In 2009 she won the award for Best Female Presenter at the Remark! TV and Film Awards.
Radha lives in London with her husband and two children.
Ramon Woolfe comes from a large deaf family with eight generations of deaf people and is a loving father of four deaf children.
He has appeared in many deaf television programmes and runs his own media company. In his private life he loves to tend to his plants around the home and sharing his passion among friends.
She has been Deaf since birth and has a deaf twin sister. She has been involved in media for more than 20 years, she has vast skills in camera work, editing, directing, acting, presenting and translating. She lives in Surrey but she loves London more!
Marcel Hirshman has years of experience in translating work for websites, DVDs and television. He owns his company delivering workshops, sign language and interpreting work. He comes from a Deaf family.
Once you have these foundations in place then we recommend to add on BSL Storytelling of Real Life Situations (L1). This will extend your knowledge about more grammatical elements of BSL, using our 4 part picture sequence stories as a prompt.

My name is Sonia Hollis and I’m a qualified Sign Language interpreter. Learn Sign Language Ltd was set up due to the huge demand for people wanting to learn sign language online.
Throughout the course there will be multiple choice questions to answer which tests your sign language receptive skills.
The course content is designed to be taken at your own pace, where you have 12 months access in order to complete it. However, as a guide, the content is designed similarly to a class based environment where you are taught 2 hours per week. This allows for pausing of videos and practising in between.
You will need to watch each whole video before you are able to mark it as complete, which then allows you to move onto the next video. There is a prompt button to guide you through and show when you can click on “complete lesson”.

Sonia Hollis is a hearing British Sign Language Interpreter based in Northamptonshire.
She works freelance as an interpreter for various sign language agencies covering various settings such as medical, education, social services and community interpreting.
